The 5 Golden Opening Principles Every Beginner Must Follow

1. Control the Centre The four central squares — e4, e5, d4, d5 — are the most powerful squares on the board. Place pawns and pieces to control them. 1.e4 and 1.d4 are strong first moves because they immediately claim central space.
